Health Canada Publishes New Drinking Water Quality Guidelines

Health Canada has published two updated final guidelines for drinking water quality to its website.
Final guideline for Canadian drinking water quality for bromate - The order establishes a final maximum acceptable concentration (maC) of 0.01 mg/l (10 µg/l) for bromate in drinking water, based on a running annual average of a minimum of quarterly samples. efforts to limit the concentration and/or formation of bromate must not compromise the effectiveness of disinfection. Bromate is usually found in drinking water as a result of water treatment. a guideline technical document which identifies health risks associated with bromate in drinking water and which incorporates analytical and treatment considerations is available on the water Quality website at:

Final guideline established for Canadian drinking water quality for chromium - a maximum acceptable concentration (maC) of 0.05 mg/l (50 µg/l) has been established for total chromium in drinking water. an associated guideline, which reviews and assesses all identified health risks and which takes into account the availability of appropriate treatment technology is available on the water Quality website at:
