Health Canada has published two final Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality. These are
- Final Drinking Water Guidance on Enterococci as an Indicator in Canadian Drinking Water Supplies
- Final guideline for Canadian drinking water quality for total coliforms – which establishes the maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) for total coliforms in water leaving a treatment plant and in non-disinfected groundwater leaving the well is none detectable per 100 mL. Detection of total coliforms from consecutive samples from the same site or from more than 10% of the samples collected in a given sampling period should be investigated.
- Final Guidance on natural organic matter in drinking water. The document states that no practical health-based value can currently be derived for NOM in drinking water, instead the document reviews and assesses risks associated with the impact of NOM on drinking water treatment processes and the safety of drinking water.
