The Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) is proud to release the report of a national survey on Natural Infrastructure (NI).
"Adoption of Natural Infrastructure in the Water Sector” is a CWWA report based on a survey of its members in 2023. The survey of 60 questions was carried out between January 27, 2023 and February 28, 2023. The results were collected and analyzed by CWWA’s Utility Leadership Committee and Climate Change Committee.
The objectives of the survey were to:
- Assess the level of knowledge and the adoption of Natural Infrastructure in the water sector
- Gauge priorities and needs of CWWA membership on this subject
- Determine possible next steps for CWWA
CWWA received a tremendous response rate to the survey with 129 organisations participating, representing utilities, consultants, suppliers and government.
Participants also responded to an invitation to share details of their Natural Infrastructure (NI) projects and/or programs. In total, 35 examples were provided.
The executive summary provides an excellent overview of the responses, while the Report provides greater detail on each question. The Report also shares many of the example NI projects that participants provided.
CWWA’s next steps are to:
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing about NI
- Development of a Position Statement to support and promote NI
- Communications with governments to support NI projects
- Identification of potential partnerships with other organisations
