Building on our success last year at the joint Wastewater Management Conference and Central Canadian Symposium on Water Quality Research, CWWA and CAWQ are teaming again to host the 49th Central Canadian Symposium on Water Quality Research and Wastewater Management Conference. The continuing collaboration will help build relationships between researchers and water and wastewater professionals.

Making the Pieces Fit: Facing Water Quality Challenges Together

Modern life, while full of conveniences, results in environmental stressors. With the growing density of urban populations, a wider array of chemicals are entering the environment. Pharmaceuticals and personal care products such as shampoo, soap and perfumes are all discharged to Canada’s freshwater ecosystems. The impacts of many of these chemicals on their own, and in conjunction with others, is largely unknown. Research on water quality is becoming increasingly focussed on the impacts and detection of these contaminants.

Chemicals are not the only emerging threat to our water bodies – climate change and the associated change in global weather and precipitation patterns, natural and man-made disasters and invasive species are all making our water systems more vulnerable.

Stormwater management and discharge is also emerging as an environmental and public concern. Special sessions will focus on the research into the environmental impacts of stormwater discharges and new and best practices to manage and treat stormwater.

This conference will bring together researchers, water and wastewater utility managers and operators, private sector consultants,  technology developers and providers, and federal and provincial regulators to explore the latest research on these emerging issues and how we can work together to find solutions.

Call for Abstracts

The Call for Abstracts is now open. Abstracts deadline was set for November 1st. This is a great chance to share your research projects, case studies or other work with fellow wastewater utilities and the academic community. With sessions focussing specifically on stormwater discharges and the continuing debate over source control and flushables, attendance and participation will offer outstanding rewards.
