Canadian Energy and Water Efficiency Conference

CWWA hosted the very successful Canadian Energy and Water Efficiency Conference in Calgary Alberta from October 16-18.

The conference featured presentations that not only explored water and energy efficiency separately – with presentations on program development and implementation, energy auditing and recovery – but also how interconnected energy and water are, and the importance of considering both together to effectively manage demand, costs and improve environmental stewardship.

The Opening Plenary featured a fantastic keynote panel including Mary Ann Dickinson, President and CEO of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, Michael Harcourt, Chair and CEO of QUEST and Geoff Riggs, IBM Consultant and Business Development Manager who set the stage giving their unique perspective on the relationship between water and energy. The Plenary also featured a presentation by the "Water Brothers" Tyler and Alex Mifflin, hosts of the TVO eco-adventure series. In their presentation they shared stories of their adventures, how they began this journey and the lessons they are learning about changing attitudes.

A major feature of the Conference was the Tradeshow and Reception, that not only featured our exhibitors and sponsors, but also benefitted Calgary based charity Reach Haiti. Delegates were able to walk the red carpet, be sworn in as honorary Calgarians, participate in a silent auction and experience a unique and exciting fashion show featuring designs from Calgary based designers, and products from our exhibitors. The event raised over $5000 for Reach Haiti – money that will support access to education in the struggling country.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to members of CWWA Energy and Water Efficiency Committee to have a face-to-face meeting and discuss the outcome of the conference and next steps in the activities to be undertaken by the Committee.

We’d also like to thank our volunteers who helped throughout the conference.
