The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) posted a notice of the draft scientific criteria document for Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life– Zinc.
The document is likely to have influence on the upcoming Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) assessment of zinc, which in turn will influence regulations and site permits. The public comment period closes on March 29, 2016.
The International Zinc Association (IZA) and the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) are working cooperatively to address all facets of the proposed guidance. The coordinated comments will be distributed to interested parties, including the North American Metals Council (NAMC).
