CWWA Looking Ahead to 2014
2013 was a busy year for CWWA, with the Association hosting three Events, including a brand new Conference exploring water and energy, a new collaboration with the Canadian Association for Water Quality (CAWQ) culminating in the joint Central Canadian Symposium on Water Quality Research and Wastewater Management Conference, along with hosting our annual Window on Ottawa.
2013 was also a year of repositioning and administrative change for the Association with changes to our communications tools including a switch to an entirely electronic bulletin and a major update to our financial systems and record keeping.
Our 2014 membership invoices have recently gone out in a new electronic format, allowing online payments and electronic transfers.
The focus in 2014 will be to build our membership, improve member services and strengthening our presence as YOUR voice in Ottawa. For example, we’re working on improving the content and delivery of the e-bulletin, making sure that it’s delivered to as many of our members as possible, we’re re-focusing the magazine to ensure better content focusing on the issues of concern to the our members and aligned with the Association’s priorities. We are also working on a completely revised and revitalized Members’ Briefing Book, which will be available in late 2014 or early 2015.
CWWA is also actively following several federal initiatives including continued collaboration with Public Safety Canada and Environment Canada to ensure that water and wastewater utilities remain an active participant in national efforts to protect critical infrastructure, CWWA is in discussions with both Canadian and U.S. partners to find solutions to the challenge of defining and standardizing flushable products. We continue to work collaboratively with our Wastewater and Stormwater Committee on the implementation of the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulation and hope to become more active on stormwater issues. Revitalizing all of our Committees and ensuring that they remain a source of information and national collaboration will also be an important goal for the New Year.
