The Water Haller - IF YOU WEREN’T IN WHISTLER, YOU MISSED A GOOD ONE!
Everything went so well in Whistler. We were overwhelmed with positive comments from the delegates. Even the not-so-positive comments came in the form of helpful suggestions for improvement.
This was our first "consolidated" conference, bringing our many varied events and partners together into one, annual, national event. Needless to say, we were all a bit stressed at CWWA; just hoping and believing that this combined format would work. Three weeks out, I’ll admit I was VERY nervous as the numbers looked low, but registrations flowed in and we broke the 400 delegate mark. A new record for CWWA!
Please don’t register so late...You give me a heart attack!
It goes without saying that Whistler was a beautiful location, and the weather couldn’t have been better. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler was equally stunning, the rooms and service were the tops, but the food was unbeatable. Our Conference Celebration under the rooftop tent was an event to remember with CWWA toques, open fires and the greatest singers. I’ve never heard such rave reviews for poutine, mac’n’cheese and chili!
From the Opening Reception Potlatch in the Longhouse Sunday night to Lunch-To-Go on Wednesday, everything went perfectly. But we were most proud of the quality of the sessions. We have to thank our spectacular program committee volunteers, session leaders and moderators for putting together a first-class professional program. There was plenty for everyone in every stream...and you were encouraged to jump streams and see what was going on in other specialized areas. I want to personally thank my staff here at CWWA, Kara, Anita, Adrien and Eric, for their months of hard work and planning.
The overwhelming sense we got from all was that this consolidated format works. We provided the same quality programming for each stream as we always have, but with new options. This also made the event more attractive to you, our members in the utility world. A rough review of our delegates showed a tremendous increase in delegates from utilities and the private sector that supports them...while retaining a strong turnout from academics, NGOs and government. This increase in utility delegates was also noted by our exhibitors – 28 in all – another new record for CWWA!
WE’RE GONNA DO IT EVEN BETTER IN TORONTO!
That is a real challenge for us, but we’re going to do it! The National Water & Wastewater Conference 2016 will be held in Toronto, November 13-16 at the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre. Start making plans to be there! We promise to build another solid program that will serve all aspects of our industry.
DO YOU HAVE A TOPIC IDEA? Let us know! Send us your concept for a presentation or panel now.
Full details and registration will be available soon. Watch for our information in our CWWA e-Bulletin and in special conference emails.
BUT WE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN OTTAWA FIRST
CWWA’s premier event, the WINDOW ON OTTAWA, is alive and well...but has moved to June ...a much nicer time to visit Ottawa.
The 2016 edition of this national event will be held June 8th and 9th, 2016 at the Albert@Bay Hotel in downtown Ottawa. Details will be available soon!
