Health Canada recently released Bromate in Drinking Water - Document for Public Consultation document summarizes the results of a re-assessment by the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water (CDW) on available information with the intent of updating the current drinking water guideline.
 
The existing guideline on bromate, last updated in 1998, based its maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) of 0.01 mg/L (10 µg/L) on renal cell tumours in rats. The new document:
 
Based on these considerations, the document proposes to reaffirm a MAC of 0.01 mg/L (10 µg/L) for bromate in drinking water. The deadline to provide comments is February 5, 2016.
