CWWA, and our Canadian Partners, made an impressive showing at the World Water Congress & Exhibition in Tokyo September 16th to 20th. This global event is organized every two years by the International Water Association (IWA). The next event will be in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2020 then Canada will host this event in Toronto in 2022.
To start momentum early for the world to come to Toronto, we organized a Canadian Pavilion to invite the world. Our incredible booth was designed and built by our friends at the Canadian Embassy in Japan – they also provide translation services and coordinated a Canadian Business Forum to promote Canadian innovation. CWWA’s Robert Haller was one of the speakers at the forum. Of course, we must thank Toronto Tourism and Conventions for their tremendous support as we prepare for 2022.

Canada was joined in the pavilion by our corporate partners, Hydromantis and Heron Instruments. We were also supported by a coalition of academic and research partners we called the Canadian Knowledge Partnership. We thank these partners from Canadian Association for Water Quality (CAWQ), Canadian Water Network (CWN), Carleton University’s Global Water Institute, CentrEAU at Universite Laval, Polytechnique Montreal, University of British Columbia, INRS Universite de Recherche, and the International Centre for Regulatory Excellence (ICORE).

IWA is represented in Canada by a joint committee for the CWWA and the Canadian Association for Water Quality (CAWQ). CWWA’s Robert Haller and CAWQ’s Peter Vanrolleghem were there in Tokyo to represent Canada at the IWA Governing Assembly to determine IWA leadership and approve the new Strategic Plan.
Canada (through the CWWA/CAWQ) will also host the IWA Young Professionals Conference in Toronto in June 2019 and the IWA’s Strategic Asset Management and Performance Indicators/Benchmarking Specialty Conference (LESAM/PI) in Vancouver in September 2019.
