Michèle Giddings is known to many of you as the science lead and Manager of the Water Quality and Science Division at Health Canada. After more than 32 years in Health Canada’s drinking water-related science, policy and research programme, Michèle will be retiring from the public service in late December 2018. It is not easy to sum up a career that spans more than three decades. Michèle has been successful in establishing collaborative partnerships and engaging Canadian stakeholders to improve risk assessments on issues that affect water quality in Canada and globally. Some of the highlights include her significant contributions to the development of the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality; her work as an appointed member of the Ontario Drinking Water Advisory Council (ODWAC); and, her role in the Committee that develops the World Health Organization''s (WHO) drinking water guidelines. In 2012, Michèle was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in honour of her accomplishments.
Over the years, Michèle has approached every new challenge with enthusiasm, commitment and a passion that has not dimmed. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that Canadians and the international community are protected from health risks from contaminated water. As she retires from public service and moves on to other adventures, we wish her the very best!
