The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is calling for professionals in the renewable energy industry to act as mentors for the 2025 Hydropower Collegiate Competition. Expressions of interest are to be submitted via this link and will be accepted until Sept. 1, 2024.

Individuals from any renewable energy area with experience in hydropower are encouraged to apply, including academia, government or industry. Mentors and mentees will be paired in October 2024 and mentors are expected to provide up to 15 hours of support to teams from October 2024 through May 2025. Competition organizers will send a mentorship agreement document that will outline the expectations for mentors and teams. Additionally, we will hold a mentor orientation webinar in September to provide more information.

Mentoring the next generation of water power professionals is a perfect way to give back to the industry that we love. Students will gain valuable hands-on insight from your expertise, and, in turn, you can help advance the incoming renewable energy workforce and have access to new hires.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office, the hydropower collegiate competitions invite undergraduate and graduate students to develop real-world solutions while competing for cash prizes and gaining resume experience in the renewable energy industry. The goal of both competitions is to provide students with an on-ramp to the renewable energy field and opportunities to engage with established industry professionals as well as their local communities.
