The Call for Abstracts for the 2022 conference in San Diego is open now and closes on June 27. With what will be the first face-to-face conference in two years, we look forward to another excellent technical program under the leadership of Conference Technical Program Chair Joe Goldstein (Geosyntec) and Vice-Chair Ed Toms (AECOM).
The project funded by FEMA and led by USSD and Lead Technical Experts, Paul Ridlen (Knight Piesold), Mike Henderson (CO School of Mines) and Bob Snow (D'Appolonia Eng.) is finishing up year one with the year two option picked up by FEMA.
One of the many benefits of USSD membership is the opportunity to list your company news in the monthly e-newsletter that is distributed the third Wednesday of each month.

Deadline for inclusion in an upcoming e-blast is the second Friday of each month and should be sent to sharon@ussdams.org. Submissions received after deadline will be included in the following month.

Industry News & Updates
The decommissioned Xingu dam in the town of Mariana was the site of the  dam rupture that killed 19 people in 2015 and had its risk level elevated last October. Although the dam stopped operations in 1998, there are workers employed by Vale on site to monitor its stability in advance of decommissioning procedures.

As of June 11, Vale is considering the use of remote controlled trains to mitigate the risk to workers.
