USSD Membership
USSD is a world-class organization of engineering professionals who advance the environmentally sustainable science of planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of dams, levees and associated civil engineering projects. Our members lead the nation, and work with partner organizations worldwide, to resolve the world’s most critical resource problem: access to clean water.
ICOLD News
Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), Spanish National Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD), Brazilian Dam Committee (CBDB), and U.S. Society on Dams (USSD) have the honor to invite professionals to the 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety, which will be held Sept. 24-28, 2024, in Yichang City, China. The East Asian Area Dam Conference (EADC) was formed in 2004 by the Japan Commission on Large Dams (JCOLD), the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), and the Korea National Committee on Large Dams (KNCOLD). JCOLD will be hosting the 12th East Asian Dam Conference on June 3-7, 2024, in Nagoya, Japan. Event and registration details can be viewed online.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in collaboration with U.S. and international partners, published a joint guide, “Mitigating Cyber Threats with Limited Resources: Guidance for Civil Society,” for civil society organizations and individuals to mitigate the threat of observed malicious behavior by state-sponsored cyber operations.
A secure by design software development program necessitates formal efforts to eliminate entire classes of defect before the product ships rather than playing whack-a-mole with defects that appear on customer systems in production.
It is with profound sadness we announce that the dam safety community recently lost one of our great engineers – Jay Thom. For those of us who knew Jay, this loss cuts deep.
Jay was heavily involved in dam engineering across the western states for over the past 40 years; he was a champion for dam safety in Montana and a contributing member to the national dam safety community, including serving on committees for ASDSO and USSD.
