A six module training course has been created for Site Superintendents to gain a better understanding of the requirements of the Stormwater program. Training will include how to conduct oneself during a regulatory agency’s site inspection and how to conduct a site inspection themselves. Also, training will cover highlights of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and the difference between a structural control and a non-structural control. By the end of the six modules, a Site Superintendent will be more familiar with the vernacular used by stormwater professionals and will be able to display their knowledge so that the regulatory agency is comfortable that their site is in compliance with the program.

Several Construction Education Foundation (CEF) students from TEXO Member firms competed in the ABC National Craft Championships earlier this month. They were, Adam Rodgers,  Gentzler Electric, Gary Buster, DynaTen, Bernardo "Barney" Torbellin, TDIndustires, Steven Miller,  Polk Mechanical, Frank Hernandez, TDIndustries, Francisco Ochoa,  TDIndustries, and Joshua Prater,  FSG. Josh Prater with FSG took home a Bronze Medal in the Welding/Structural competition, and both Francisco Ochoa and Frank Hernandez with TDIndustries were presented with the Outstanding Safety Practices Award in their competitions. Congratulations to all competitors!

It seems every major daily newspaper in Texas is reporting on the many job cuts in our state's oil and gas industry. AGC of America just released "Ready to Hire Again: The 2015 Construction Hiring and Business Outlook." In summary, the 10-page report describes the growing shortage of qualified workers-especially craft workers. That's one of the reasons an industry coalition developed a new statewide workforce development website, www.texasconstructioncareers.com. It is designed to connect laid off workers to meaningful, well-paying jobs in the construction industry.  Employers can post positions, check out industry job fairs, and take inventory of all the craft providers in Texas.
