Vote May 11: Municipal Elections and Bond Issues
The TEXO Government Affairs Committee is encouraging TEXO members and their employees to vote this Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the Texas May Uniform election. Several local municipal, water district and independent school district leadership positions are at stake during this election. Please take time and learn about the candidates then cast your vote. There will also be city and school district bond issues on ballots in numerous communities in North and East Texas. Successful passage of bond issues creates additional construction projects and jobs for our industry. TEXO supports passage of all construction related bond programs. Make your vote count. OSHA 30-Hour Training in Spanish
This class provides instruction on construction industry safety and health topics. Upon successful completion participants will be issued OSHA 30-Hour cards through the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA. Click here to read more and to register
All companies MUST have their workforce trained in the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) by December 1, 2013
GHS is an international approach to hazard communication, providing a new system for classification of chemical hazards, and a standardized approach to labels and safety data sheets. OSHA is requiring that by December 1, 2013 all employees be trained on the new labels (e.g., pictograms and signal words) and Safety Data Sheet format. Dallas leads U.S. metro areas in construction job growth
The Dallas area led the nation’s metropolitan areas in construction job gains in March, according to data released Wednesday by an industry trade group. Read more

Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 165,000, seasonally adjusted, in April and 2,077,000 (1.6%) over 12 months, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The March gain, initially reported as a weak 88,000, was revised up to 138,000. Read more

CEF's local Craft Championship competitors finishes two days of National Competition at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Craft Championships
Four students in CEF's craft/apprenticeship program competed in the ABC National Craft Championship last week in Birmingham, AL, 2 of which received national recognition. Congratulations to:
