Have a Voice in the Legislative Process?

By Jack Baxley
Executive Vice President Government Affairs

TEXO members have several ways to shape and guide the future of our construction industry. But to do so you must make the commitment to become engaged in the opportunities TEXO provides be it education / professional development, safety or governmental relations and advocacy.

As an example, TEXO members are provided the opportunity to support the TEXO-PAC our political action committee which provides financial support to the campaigns of candidates on the local and state levels. The candidates are selected and supported by their commitment to the free enterprise system and their understanding of the challenges you encounter as construction industry business owner.

On the national level TEXO members have the opportunity to select one of two political action committees, the Associated Builders and Contractors PAC or the Associated General Contractors PAC. Federal law restricts the ability for an individual to support both PAC’s. Each association PAC requires a "Prior Authorization" form to be completed before your contribution is submitted. The TEXO PAC does not require an authorization form as it’s subject to the rules of the Texas Ethics Commission.

All of the "Political Action Committees" TEXO members have available to support are considered to be very affective on the local, state and national levels.

In order for us to maintain our high level of effectiveness we need to increase the TEXO member sphere of participation. Regardless of your level of contribution you may make, more importantly it’s your commitment to the process of increasing our influence as the "voice of the construction industry".

The saying goes "Get in Politics or Get out of Business" and it rings so ever true considering the current political environment.

To make a contribution to the TEXO PAC, click here. For additional information on how you can participate in our national ABC or AGC PAC programs please contact me at the TEXO office.

To the TEXO members who have made your 2014 TEXO PAC Contribution we thank you for your continued support.
