CMPs Bring Unique and Engaging Efforts

This past month saw CMPs making headlines based on a range of unique and engaging efforts. These efforts ranged from developing new attendee engagement tactics to spearheading global initiatives.

With the release of its annual Changemakers report earlier this month, MeetingsNet recognized 20 individuals who are successfully moving their organizations and our industry forward in unique and positive ways.

This talented group of individuals encompass meeting managers, association executives, and suppliers, each of which have re-imagined their educational strategies, stood up for diversity, argued for better risk management tools, instituted sustainability programs, advised industry startups, built communities, and much more. In fact, two of this year’s Changemakers are doing their best to reinvent the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics annual meeting. Jane Dahlroth and Penelope Freire have been successful at making the annual meeting more attendee-centric by offering more ways to access the content, a variety of learning formats, and places to engage with each other.

Among the newly implemented features include Learning Lounges, located on the exhibit floor, which provide 30-minute, bite-sized education on a variety of topics, along with ePosters, which allow attendees to see posters online that they weren’t able to get to during the meeting. Check out some of the other innovative ideas that have transformed this event from a "talking head" experience to one that is highly interactive and engaging for attendees.

Another CMP in the News, Sandy Biback, CMP Emeritus CMM, is doing so through her efforts to help end human trafficking. She began hosting an educational breakfast in Toronto (where her company Imagination Meeting Planners Inc. is located) called Human Trafficking in Our Backyard. More than 40 event planners and members of the local hospitality community attended the inaugural event, and since that time Biback has expanded it into an ongoing program called Meeting Professionals Against Human Trafficking. Learn more about Sandy’s journey here.
