Here in Wisconsin it is snowy, cold and beautiful.  I love winter.  There is something about how the snow and cold quiets the sounds of cars, city noise, and slows everything and everyone down.   It offers up a moment to stop the daily hustle and reflect about the year that was and the year about to be.  

It has been an honor and privilege to be Chair of the CMP Governance Commission this year.  This past year the Commission focused on driving strategy and initiatives around 3 key areas; rigor, relevance, and value.  The Commission made the CMP more accessible from entry point to renewal.  It also re-evaluated the body of knowledge to ensure it reflected the work practitioners do in the market and reviewed the exam on scoring standards and test item review.  All of which ensure a healthy, vibrant, and strong CMP.   

Throughout the year I have spoken to many CMPs about what they want and expect of the CMP and as it was said, many time and in many ways; keep it strong, keep it relevant; keep it a benchmark of knowledge and prestige.  I am happy to say that the Commission kept this on the forefront of their mind as they made decisions to do just that as the mission of the CMP Commission is to be the voice of those who have achieved the CMP certification and for those aspiring to be CMPs.

I recently asked members of the Commission what was on their "wish" list for the CMP in 2017.  Here are a few things that they said: 

• Employers list every open position as CMP REQUIRED!
• A stronger international presence
• 1000 new CMPs in 2017
• More people obtaining the CMP-HC designation
• 100% recertification rate

If the Commission could giftwrap a few presents for a candidate studying for the CMP here is what the Commission would give them:

• Confidence that they can achieve this designation with hard work and commitment
• The understanding that if you study and apply yourself you will pass.  Dedication is the main ingredient to passing this exam.
• Don’t overthink the exam – you know more than you know! Join a study group and read the recommended reading list
• Peer support
• Better study tools so they are well prepared for the exam

As we move into 2017, Matt DiSalvo will lead the CMP Commission and he is very much focused on keeping the momentum of success moving forward and ensure the CMP continues to be the most sought after credential for meeting professionals globally.
