Chair's corner
In·spire Verb 1. Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. People are inspired by many different things whether it’s a person, place or thing. I have had the opportunity in the past week to be inspired by all three while participating in the CMP Governance Commission fall meeting and the CMP Conclave in Birmingham, AL. I am constantly inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of the professionals in our industry. This was the final meeting of our CMP commission for the year. Although a few people were unable to make the trip, they still participated virtually in the full day meeting. The dedication of these individuals to contribute to the future of the CMP is motivating.

It further enables this dynamic industry to benchmark its current contributions and track its future growth. The data in this study provides a clear and credible statistical base on which to gain recognition for this vast and diverse industry as a vital economic driver and clearly articulates the downstream effect on other industries and the people who work in them. Anyone who reads this report will better understand the economic significance as well as the depth and breadth of the global business events industry.

By Corbin Ailer, CMP
Another dynamic, educational CMP Conclave is in the books – this year from historic Birmingham, Ala! CMPs from 37 states, as well as Mexico, Taiwan, and Denmark arrived ready to learn and network in the Magic City.
The educational content was engaging and energising over the three-day conference, which helped us elevate expectations of ourselves professionally and personally. Patrick Henry, CSP, serenaded us with his wit and his message of how to make our events "Re-Memorable." Sylvie di Giusto, CSP, guided us through how first impressions can help or hinder us, and how to make positive changes. Closing speaker Ben Nemtin shared his inspiring story of an off-the-cuff bucket list of 100 items between a small group of friends that turned into a global movement of millions – a movement that asks, "What do you want to do before you die?"

CMPs are in a position to drive food donations to their local community, and it is important to not let this opportunity go to "waste." This is becoming particularly important as the industry shifts towards more sustainable initiatives. Your food service companies may say they can’t donate food because of liability. This should never be the case, and let me tell you why.
