Chair's corner
I sit here typing this from the “bio dome” of the Gaylord Texan at the end of a two-day site. This cautious-but-fully-vaccinated lady just spent two days with four other vaccinated humans, unmasked. Laughing, planning and overeating. I ran into all the things. Weather delays. Southwest Airlines systems crashing and cancelling my client’s flights – twice. Do you know the beautiful thing? None. Of. Us. Cared. We were together again. Our lovely Senior Sales Manager was doing her amazing thing, the clients were excited to talk about face to face and I was happy to be right in the middle of all of the brainstorming. None of us missed that we all will be forever changed. We each had our own stories about our journey over the past year. Not one of those stories was easy.

Events and Programmes
By Matt DiSalvo, CMP | Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Capital Convention Contractors In August 2020, two industry colleagues, Anissa Ladd of the Providence Warwick CVB and Martha Sheridan with the Greater Boston CVB, started a walking group on Facebook. The initial idea was to walk 100 consecutive days outside. If you missed a day, you had to start on Day One again. Of course, it morphed over time as life does. Some folks stayed through, and others did not. Some participated daily while others were a bit sporadic. Either way, we found the means to motivate, connect and complete our tasks. There are still new members joining even today. So here we are a group consisting of industry colleagues, some CMP’s and some not, and some friends and family of these nice folks but all committed to the experience of walking together while apart.

CMP spotlight series
How many years have you been a CMP? 6 months Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Chiba, Japan, just east of Tokyo, and I lived there until I moved to Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, for the position at PACIFICO. What did you want to (or think you’d) be when you grew up? I thought of working as a curator in art museums or galleries. I just had a vague idea of serving in the field of arts. What was your educational field of study (college major or whatever, as applicable), and, if notably different from what you do, your how/why/story? I majored in Japanese Literature and History of Art at the university and my field of study was Japanese Medieval Art. I started my career as an editor at a software company, which produced classical music DVDs. As a result of that software company’s merger into a record company, I happened to serve as an A&R (Artist & Repertoire) director being involved in many CD recordings and the video licensing of classical music. I was also in charge of the launch of the music school, which was a result of the fan base’s nurturing and the related events’ creation. It was only six years ago that I jumped into the meetings industry in a quest to produce the moments of inspiration instead of just manufacturing the goods.
