2022 is going to be an amazing year! 2022 is the year that the Meetings Industry rebounds! 2022 will be a year of growth for the CMP Community! These are just a couple of affirmations that I am putting into the universe to try and make 2022 a great success.

For those of you that do not know me, I am Steve Lorenz, CMP, and I am honored to serve as Chair of the Events Industry Council’s CMP Governance Commission for 2022. My membership on the CMP Governance Commission began in 2015, with a push from one of my larger-than-life mentors, and I haven’t looked back since.

Provide Feedback on the EIC Sustainable Event Standards and Earn Free CEs

Our industry’s long-term sustainability is directly tied to our ability to make a faster and bolder transformation toward climate and social justice. This transformation will no doubt be challenging, and clear guidance will be needed for all of us to make the journey.

As part of EIC’s long-standing commitment to leading and accelerating this transformation, we are releasing an updated version of the EIC Sustainable Event Standards in 2022, and have made the current draft available for public commentary. The journey toward certification provides organisations, destinations and professionals with a framework and transparent process to set and implement targets as well as a way to set and achieve community wide goals, drive ambition, and accelerate change.

Where did you grow up?
To quote two of my favorite tourism commercials, “Pure Michigan!” is where I was born and raised, but I’ve been a very happy resident of Orlando, Florida, since just out of college, so this is now my very own “happiest place on earth!”

While it may have been tempting to sit out an in-person show at the start of this year due to concerns about the Omicron variant, attendees and exhibitors of Convening Leaders 2022 (CL22) stayed the course, just as Sherrif Karamat, president and CEO of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), urged in a statement the week before the event. “Our industry and our businesses can and will move forward,” he said. “How this happens, it is up to us—all of us. Our audiences need us more than ever. This is our time.”

An introduction to the report

The term digital is used to describe a set of tools and strategies that can be applied to multiple meeting and event (M&E) formats where technology is utilised to plan and deliver events.

In-person, virtual and hybrid events may all make use of digital, although virtual and hybrid events tend to rely on digital tools to deliver and facilitate experiences.
