CEO Message
As we write the final chapter on 2022 and look forward to the New Year, I continue to be inspired by the resilience of our industry. The CMP community plays a vital role as ambassadors of our vision to enrich lives and drive economic growth through the power of events worldwide. Thank you for committing to a lifelong learning journey and the professional standards that provide a framework for collaboration. The CMP certification, SEPC certificate programme, and Sustainable Event Standards are a resource for our industry to invest in their best resources: their people. EIC’s work this year has centered around the concept of People, Planet and Purpose with close alignment to our values: ethical, transparent, inclusive, innovative and responsible. Through the dedication and significant contributions of many, we were able to deliver our EIC Equity Benchmarking Study, engage in the ongoing work for the future of the CMP through the Competency Profile and Job Task Analysis Project, and relaunch our Sustainable Event Standards.

Survey will help drive work of addressing collaboration over cancellation. By Don Welsh, President and CEO of Destinations International Please click here for the survey by 31 December Over the course of the last few years, many destinations have found themselves in a situation where political decisions and human rights issues have impacted the appeal of the destination to convention business. Destinations International, the global trade association for convention and visitors’ bureaus (CVBs) and tourism boards, has long believed in travel’s ability to be a profound force for good, moving national economies, societies, and identities forward like no other sector can. We are opposed to using travel as a political weapon. We understand why these boycotts and bans make sense; however, we encourage political engagement and an action-based, researched approach to help impact political change.

By Naomi Tucker, CMP, Account Director of Meetings & Incentives Worldwide, Inc. This year, the event industry came back with a vengeance. And in knowing that ramping up our industry again would be the great challenge; event professionals have met the need with grit. From managing limited availability of our venues, to educating our teams and bringing staff back into full swing, our event professionals have managed to continue forward in ensuring integrity of planning events. Recently I read The Gap and The Gain by Dan Sullivan, which was a fantastic book that gave me lots of insight. The premise behind the book is instead of focusing on the gaps in our lives, we should focus on the gains that we’ve received. This only leads us to get more gains, more celebrations, more wins. Our industry is still aiming to get to pre-pandemic planning levels, yet it can be said that we aren’t the same industry anymore. We’ve changed. Many people have left, businesses have changed structure, and events are not operated in the same way they operated did before. That reality simply doesn’t exist anymore, and instead of measuring against a reality that doesn’t exist anymore, let’s measure by the gains that we are able to see.
