Maintenance Technicians throughout South Florida Gathered to Compete in the Third Annual Maintenance Mania Competition

On Feb. 17,  83 maintenance professionals from across South Florida gathered to compete at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale for the South East Florida Apartment Association (SEFAA) annual Maintenance Mania Competition. More than110 spectators cheered during the event of seven timed games, including installation and repairs of a faucet, toilet, lockset, door jamb, smoke detector, appliance and ceiling fan. Capping off the event included a race car competition. Technicians built race cars from supplies in their shops. The cars were very creative, streamlined and fast.

The five finalists in order are Jerry Turnbull of Camden Portofino; Kered Burridge of St. Andrews of Palm Aire, Pedro Ravelo of Camden Portofino; Jose Aguilar of Crystal Palms and Edgar Depena of the Waves. All earned the chance to compete in the state competition at the Florida Apartment Association in October 2011 in Orlando. The top finalist qualifies to earn a chance to advance to the National Championship with the National Apartment Association in July 2011 in Las Vegas. In addition to skill building and peer recognition—winners earn prizes.

A Maintenance Technician appreciation dinner concluded the event with delicious food and drinks.
