First Coast Apartment Association Wins National Spirit Award During Maintenance Mania Finals at NAA
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 26, 2014) -- First Coast Apartment Association (FCAA) members cheered on their two competitors in the Maintenance Mania® National Competition at the 2014 National Apartment Association Education Conference & Exposition and won the coveted Maintenance Mania Spirit Award.
The local association’s boisterous contingent won the spirit competition against the likes of groups from Denver, the state of Maryland and other larger associations. This year’s national championship in Denver attracted nearly 1,000 spectators, including FCAA’s alligator mascots into the Maintenance Mania arena.
Jimmy Garcia, of Avistele of Ponte Vedra and Renaissance Property Group, and Kyle Slagle, with Addison Landing Apartments and WRH Realty Services, competed on June 20.
"As the presenting national sponsor, we are thrilled with how this program has grown over the past eight years, and proud of how it connects maintenance professionals and local apartment associations within the apartment industry," said Eileen Walker of HD Supply Facilities Maintenance and FCAA member.
The event consisted of eight skill-based games based on common maintenance activities and a race car competition. All games were timed to determine the fastest competitor in each game and overall.
Earlier this year FCAA spotlighted property maintenance technicians in local Maintenance Mania competition at the University of North Florida University Center.
Racing against the clock, more than 100 participants competed in eight maintenance-focused challenges. Representing local apartment communities, they tested their maintenance skills and knowledge of the apartment industry.
FCAA had two of the available 20 spots in this national competition. This was Garcia’s third and Slagle’s first time going to nationals. The 2015 national championship will take place next June in Las Vegas.
Founded in 1979, the FCAA serves the apartment industry in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and Nassau Counties. FCAA’s mission is to promote, inform and serve the apartment industry through education, legislation, and professional networking.
