FAA Legislative Days – February 21st & 22nd – Tallahassee, FL
You down with Chapter 83? Yeah, you know me!
Once you are done groaning over my lame article title, I encourage you to consider sending in your registration for FAA Legislative Days today! If you've waited to book your room at the swanky Hotel Duval (our new conference hotel), it's too late. Our room block there is full. No worries though, we've added rooms to our block at the trendy aLoft (our satellite hotel) but the deadline is January 27th, which is just around the corner.
You may be asking yourself, "Self, why should I attend Legislative Days this year?" I’m going to help you answer that question by highlighting several great reasons to attend...
- It’s fun and informative! You have the opportunity to network with your colleagues, friends, and peers from across the state and learn about the issues FAA is tracking.
- Engage those who represent you! The second day of the conference is dedicated to meeting with your elected officials and their legislative staff. These meetings are invaluable as they afford you the opportunity to establish a rapport, promote our industry, and learn about the "hot topics."
- Critical Apartment Industry issues are on the table. As a wise man once said (Jeff Rogo) "If you’re not at the table then you’re probably on the menu."
- Landlord/Tenant Law – HB921/SB1830 would substantially change many of the provisions in the law our industry is uniquely subject to. Many of these provisions would be great for our industry, but a handful could hurt us. Help us persuade lawmakers to make the right choices on this bill.
- Pool and Spa Maintenance – HB1259/SB1544 would mandate that anyone who handles chemicals, cleans filters, replaces components, etc. on a pool or spa would have to hold a Pool/Spa contractor’s license. This would prohibit the vast majority of our onsite teams from servicing their community pools whether or not they held the CPO®.
The most important thing is that this is your only opportunity to engage your elected officials while they are in session. Please book your hotel by January 27th and register your attendance no later than February 10th! More information (including the registration form) can be found at www.faahq.org.
