“Last year I lost my life-long friend Doug Lech to lymphoma”, said DeLorenzo. “Doug and I met in
kindergarten and remained best friends for life. Doug put up a strong fight but succumbed to this terrible disease on New Year’s Day 2018. We are passionate about stopping these cancers before they can affect another person we love. I’m really proud of my daughter for being selected to play such a meaningful role in this”.

LLS has donated over 1.2 BILLION dollars into cancer research, not only to treat blood cancer patients, but also to treat those affected by breast and liver cancer. This research saved thousands of lives. In the society’s 50 year history, the survival rate of blood cancers has gone from 3% to 92%.

Each of the 15 ‘SOY’ Teams, which include the nominee and their hand-picked team members, set out to develop a variety of fun and unique fundraising campaigns in an effort to reach their goal. For Joangela and her “Banking on a Cure’ Team, it includes the following events:

-          February 8th: “Dress Down Day”. Students at various high schools pay $5 to ‘dress down’ instead of wearing their uniform

-          February 13th: “Guest Bartenders at Babylon’s Tres Palm.” Captain Al Lorenzetti and George Yurack will be featured!

-          February 24th: “Purses for a Purpose”. An afternoon of shopping for new and gently used donated purses

-          March 8th:  THE MAIN EVENT. “Chinese Auction” at the American Legion Hall, 22 Grove Place, Babylon. Over 100 gift baskets! $10 admission, which includes 10 free raffle tickets, 1 door prize chance, 50/50 raffle, cash bar, coffee, tea and light fare
