The Carolinas Chapter of the AFA had their second meeting of 2019 at the City Range Steakhouse in Greenville, South Carolina.  It was a great event.  The Chapter Board had a very productive business and planning meeting, which was followed up by a Networking Cocktail Hour. Grant Edwards, Managing Chair with the C12 Group, gave a great presentation regarding Strategic Planning for our businesses and lives in general.

The Carolinas Chapter continues to work hard to bring fun events that provide value to our members. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We welcome all members and guests to join us.

When the AFA Midwest Chapter received a letter from Don Schaffer of Lincoln, NE, asking them to help a family in need, they came together to make the family's wish come true.

Nineteen gracious Midwest Chapter members volunteered their time, talent and materials to build a beautiful privacy fence that will serve the family well for years to come. It's just one more example of how AFA members care for their community.

The Memphis Tri-State Fence Association held its 33rd Annual Golf Tournament on May 18th at the Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica Mississippi.

Once again, the weather was outstanding and the day was filled with cheers and smiles from the 147 players attending the annual fund raising event.

The Friday practice round had 101 players and the Friday night reception hosted by Stateside Steel and Wire was as grand an event as ever.

Association News

AFA University is AFA’s premier, weeklong training event that educates fence professionals in the industry’s best practices. This year’s AFA University will take place November 3-9 in Arlington, TX and will offer three schools: Fence Contractor Business School, Fence Installation School, and Operator Installer School. Would you like to promote your company and support the American Fence Association and its members?

Sponsorship is a great way to get your brand in front of potential customers while also supporting AFA’s educational objectives. Companies can choose overall AFA University sponsorships, or school sponsorships, which focus on a specific school during the week.

Check out the 2019 AFA University Sponsorship Opportunities and contact Stephen Dennis at 314-561-6641 or stephen@americanfenceassociation.com to claim your sponsorship.

The American Institute of Architects has given its formal approval to a Continuing Education course prepared by the American Fence Association. AFA joined the AIA as a Professional Member this year in order to provide continuing education to architects regarding gates and fences.

The 90-minute course is Automated Gate System Safety for Architects and it covers UL 325 for gate operators and the ASTM F2200 Standard, which applies to gates that are to be automated. This course was previewed during an educational session at FENCETECH 2019 in Indianapolis, and later submitted for AIA approval.

We are excited to offer several opportunities for testing at our AFA chapter locations from June 2019 through December 2019. Please contact Katie Donovan at katie@americanfenceassociation.com if you have any questions!

A long running effort to provide training to inspectors with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is ready for implementation. The project was spearheaded by AFA President Randy Becnel and volunteer Mike Gulledge. The training assistance was requested initially by the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office following passage of a state licensing law for automated gates.
