The Carolinas Chapter of the American Fence Association is excited to announce that they have voted to partner with Purple Heart Homes for their 2019 Service Project. The organization is dedicated to providing housing for service connected disabled veterans.
The chapter will be lending their services to retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jesse J. Gladney. Jesse has overcome many challenges, including a major injury while serving in Iraq (for which he was awarded a Purple Heart), and losing his wife to cancer.
For the project, the CFA will install approximately 300 linear feet of 6-foot tall vinyl privacy fence for Jesse, all based on donated time, labor and materials.
CFA would like to thank Guardian Fence Suppliers for donating a majority of the materials. The chapter is still in need of funds for labor and additional materials, including concrete, posts stiffeners, hardware and more. They are also still seeking volunteers to manage the project installation, and represent the chapter to Jesse and the Purple Heart Homes Staff.
The event is scheduled for October, and more info will follow. If you would like to donate to the project, please email Jessica McEntire at carolinasfence1@gmail.com.

OSH recently announced that it is proposing changes to its beryllium shipyard and construction industry standards. It published the final rule in the September 30th Federal Register, noting that it was not seeking to eliminate all ancillary provisions of the two standards, but would be introducing alterations.
The multiple proposed changes cover a range of topics, from definitions and hazard communications to respiratory protection, personal protective equipment and clothing, and compliance methods.
There will be an informal hearing to discuss the proposed rule on December 3rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Department of Labor Heardquarters. Any comments for the hearing must be submitted no later than November 7th.

Ron Goedecke, an Okmulgee, OK resident, was recognized this year for his unique fence installation system, the Fence Bullet. It features metal bracing and pipe fencing connectors that do not require welding.
Goedecke applied to the Inventor's Assistance Service through Oklahoma State University's New Product Development Center, where he received assistance with patent and market research, design drawings, and support from qualified engineering students in the program. His product has grown from preliminary designs to an increasingly popular product, thanks in no small part to the NPDC and the Regent Business Partnership Award.
