What's Important to Today's School Bus Drivers?

Independent Daniel Group surveys overwhelmingly tell us how important mobile service is to your transportation department's everyday operations. Rapid response through strategically placed mobile service trucks equates to more up time for your fleet. It also means happy drivers as they get “their bus/es” returned from warranty repair quickly. Recruiting and retaining drivers is the #1 priority right now for transportation. There are new optional features available to purchase on FLDOE ITB:2022-01 that focus on the driver. The #1 feature is an independent dash air conditioning system powered by a separate compressor and a more robust and proven durable TM-43 compressor for the rear units, which helps keep drivers cool and comfortable. There is a new passenger detection system that assists drivers in locating pedestrians in and out of the danger zones as well as 360 view camera systems like those in today’s new cars. One of the “hottest” new options is the “Intellipark,” which is an electric parking brake system that prevents roll aways in the event the driver inadvertently forgets to set the parking brake. When considering what Electric School Buses are costing these days, adding key features to help recruit and retain drivers seems extremely inexpensive for your workhorse clean fueled buses, which will operate in your fleet for 10-20 years.
