Privacy Advocates Express Concern Over Florida Schools Safety Portal For Preventing School Shootings
After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in February 2018, it led to a call for school leaders in Florida to gather and share more information on troubled students, like confessed shooter Nikolas Cruz, in hopes of preventing another tragedy. However, the recommendation of the Florida Schools Safety Portal has privacy advocates concerned about how students’ privacy will be protected. (CBS Miami)
Google is facing a new lawsuit filed by the state of New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas on this week, alleging the company violates the privacy of students who use free Chromebooks provided to schools through the company’s G Suite for Education platform. (The Verge)
