The incoming Trump administration is looking to "unleash the potential" of private investors to boost the national transportation networks that underpin the U.S. economy, the president-elect's pick for transportation secretary, Elaine Chao, told lawmakers Wednesday. Economic gains are being "jeopardized" by aging infrastructure, rising highway fatalities, growing congestion and a failure to keep pace with emerging technologies, Chao testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. Chao, 63, is expected to be easily confirmed by the Senate. She was labor secretary during George W. Bush's administration and deputy transportation secretary under President George H.W. Bush. Her husband is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Tyson Foods has awarded its U.S. media planning and buying business to Mindshare after a review that concerned marquee brands Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, Hillshire Farm and Tyson Brand. The move amounts to a consolidation for the food giant, which has existing relationships with other WPP agencies including Ogilvy and Y&R. Mack Trucks is reigniting interest in Dimethyl Ether, or DME, a clean-burning alternative to diesel, with a new field test to be conducted in partnership with Oberon Fuels and New York City’s sanitation department. The test, using a Class 8 Mack Pinnacle tractor with a 13-liter engine, began this week and is scheduled to run for several weeks of evaluation, with results to be published by mid-year. It is the first commercial test of a DME-powered Mack. The truck maker, along with its parent company Volvo Trucks, voiced interest in the fuel several years ago, but low diesel prices dampened enthusiasm for alternative fuels and both companies canceled their planned DME engine projects in late 2014. But with growing political and social pressure for cleaner vehicle emissions, alternative fuels are catching on again.

American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear said he was honored to be selected as a member of the U.S. Department of Transportation's transportation automation advisory committee. "I am grateful to have been chosen by Secretary Foxx to serve on this important panel," Spear said. "Trucking is vital to the U.S. economy and an important part of our transportation system, so it is imperative that trucking and this association have a seat at the table when it comes to issues like autonomous vehicles, and we will be driving that outcome. "While large-scale use of autonomous trucks is years away, the policy framework that will govern this future is being debated and ultimately written today, and I look forward to vigorously participating in those discussions on behalf of the trucking industry."

Investors eyeing a purchase of Campbell Soup Co. (Symbol: CPB) stock, but tentative about paying the going market price of $59.95/share, might benefit from considering selling puts among the alternative strategies at their disposal. One interesting put contract in particular, is the January 2018 put at the $55 strike, which has a bid at the time of this writing of $2.75. Collecting that bid as the premium represents a 5% return against the $55 commitment, or a 4.9% annualized rate of return (at Stock Options Channel we call this the YieldBoost ).

Gov. John Bel Edwards said Wednesday state budget problems mean it would be "very difficult" to win legislative approval for a $700 million tax and fee hike for roads and bridges. The increase was recommended last month by a task force named by the governor, and the issue is expected to be debated during the 2017 regular session. Edwards, in an hour-long meeting with the editorial board of The Advocate, said while state transportation needs are tremendous, ongoing state budget problems will make it hard for a major boost in road and bridge spending. While the task force did not spell out a specific way to raise $700 million annually, it said state g
