Premier Trailer Leasing, a leading national trailer leasing and rental company, today announced it will partner with its long-time supplier, Thermo King, to help combat hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic. Premier will provide free rental of up to 40 Thermo King refrigerated trailers to Feeding America. These 53-foot trailers have a 40,000-pound perishable food capacity, allowing this partnership to help secure, store and distribute more than 6 million* meals this summer. 

*According to the USDA, 1.2 lbs. is equivalent to one meal.

Stating there is no longer a need for emergency relief, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has deleted a host of categories from the hours of service exemption currently in place, including food and other groceries for emergency restocking, and fuel among others items.

A recent survey by Morgan Stanley of roughly 400 transportation carriers, shippers, and brokers, revealed improvement in the current and short-term impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, but that the freight transportation industry overall lacks confidence in the longer-term outlook.

Michigan-based cold storage provider Lineage Logistics announced in early June its acquisition of Henningsen Cold Storage Co., a nationwide refrigerated warehousing operation, and its 14 facilities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Pennsylvania, North Dakota and Oklahoma.
