Registration will begin in phases for each attendee type starting with shippers/receivers beginning on September 15, 2020. Membership in the Food Shippers of America trade association is limited to individuals engaged in the business of shipping or receiving food and related productions in the Food and Beverage industry where an individual is someone who conducts business on behalf of a company who has, or maintains, physical ownership of these products within the supply chain.

With the phasing in of business openings and daily gatherings of people growing in the U.S. the CDC, in collaboration with state and local health officials, has drafted supplemental—not replacement—guidelines for protecting individuals and communities.

Building on the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has released new guidelines encompassing a host of rules and regulations that manufacturers will need to adopt on a rolling basis. The new rules are intended to encourage widespread adoption of digital and interactive technologies within the food and beverage industry.

Minneapolis-based C.H. Robinson is teaming with Microsoft to use its Azure cloud-based server to streamline the freight company's Navisphere transportation management system. Microsoft will also supply its internet of things (IoT) service to enhance CHR's ability to track temperature, shock, humidity and more in multimodal loads.

A U.S. House Appropriations Committee has approved a bill to increase funding for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration by $881 million for fiscal 2021. The bill heads to the House floor for consideration as part of a $107.2 billion package for the U.S. Department of Transportation for 2021.

Citing internal disagreement with the four revised HOS rules issued last month, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration acknowledged this week that it is considering a petition filed July 1 by safety groups, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Advocates for Highway Safety. The group claims the new rules will only exacerbate driver fatigue rather than provide flexibility to their schedules.

The pandemic spurred Ohio-based Heinen's grocery to try Sally, to fill the bill. Sally is a 6-foot-750-pound robotic capable of creating preset or custom salads or yogurt and fruit bowls, and is fully integrated to transmit sales reports, peak/low time assessments, and inventory data directly to retailers.
