New research by PreScouter, a research support provider, finds that about 35% of all plastic waste comes from the food and beverage industry. Consumers have made it clear that they want reusable and sustainable packaging. In response, big-name brands like PepsiCo, Unilever and Nestle are working on cutting the costs associated with reverse logistics and packaging that can last up to 20 uses.

U.S. weekly rail traffic rose nearly 5% for the week ending December 12 with a total of 546,209 carloads and intermodal units. Of that, carloads were down by 2.2% while intermodal units were up more than 11%. Higher intermodal volumes reflect retail sales up by 4.1% with November being the sixth consecutive month for YoY gains, according to the National Retail Federation.
