On January 17, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced a cabinet shuffle. This is expected to be the last change to cabinet before the Ontario election in June.
Changes in cabinet roles that are of interest to the CPA include:
- Kathryn McGarry (Cambridge) becomes Minister of Transport, formerly Minister of Natural Resources;
- Nathalie Des Rosiers (Ottawa-Vanier) becomes Minister of Natural Resources and is new to Cabinet;
- Steven Del Duca (Vaughan) leaves Transportation to become the Minister of Economic Development and Growth.
Some key ministers will remain in their Cabinet positions. For example, Charles Sousa will remain in Finance, Glenn Thibeault will stay on as Minister of Energy, Environment Minister Chris Ballard will also stay in his current portfolio, Bob Chiarelli remains in Infrastructure and Kevin Flynn stays in Labour. Ministers who will not be seeking re-election were dropped from cabinet. They include Brad Duguid, outgoing Minister of Economic Development and Growth; Deb Matthews, outgoing Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and Deputy Premier; and Liz Sandals (Guelph), outgoing President of the Treasury Board.
The CPA will be reaching out to the new ministers to update them on issues of importance to the propane industry in Ontario.
