On July 12, 2018, the Progressive Conservative government delivered the 42nd Parliament’s opening Speech from the Throne. The speech highlighted the Government’s new tone and focus on advancing policies pledged during the election campaign.
The speech detailed the Government’s policy-making priorities focusing on four main areas: energy and carbon pricing, taxes and trade, accountability and spending, and social policy.
Key themes outlined include fiscal responsibility, reducing government spending and lowering taxation on consumers and businesses, with the caveat that, “no dollar is better spent than the dollar that is left in the pockets of the taxpayer”.
The Government outlined a set of policy objectives based on overarching themes aimed at helping Ontarians during this period of domestic and international, economic and social uncertainty, seeking to move beyond the politics of division and promising to usher in a new era of economic prosperity.
