As mentioned in the February Public Affairs newsletter, the CPA was working on pre-budget submissions for both Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. The CPA has made it submission, proposing solutions to help the provinces reduce their energy costs and GHG emissions by recommending the following:
  • Switching from furnace oil to low-emission propane: The government commit to homeowners who wish to reduce energy costs and GHGs by switching from furnace oil to propane. This can be done in the form of a rebate program in the value of $1,500 per household beginning in the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
  • Propane fleets to reduce GHGs and lower fuel costs: The government provide a rebate of $2,500 dollars towards the conversion of commercial and passenger fleet vehicles from diesel or gasoline to low-emission propane.
  • Propane as an alternative fuel option in provincial tenders: The government include propane as an energy option for government procurement in such applications as residential, commercial, agriculture, industrial and transportation.
