The next milestone in the wind-down of the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) program was reached recently when Stewardship Ontario (SO) notified industry stewards on October 30, 2020 that their next program invoices would be reduced. These reductions represent the second installment of fee reductions based on SO’s disbursement of surplus program funds to contributing businesses.
Pressurized container fee reductions for invoices sent to stewards on October 30, 2020, reflect the schedule SO presented in July 2020.
Due to a significant "negative steward report adjustment" received in the Non-refillable Pressurized Container category, there has been a reduction to the forecast fee reduction for the final quarter of the MHSW Program. SO program consultant, Doug Mander, explained to the CPA that due to a significant overpayment by stewards in the non-refillable cylinder category over the past year, these stewards were refunded the overage amount before disbursement of the remaining program surplus funds to the other category stewards. More details, including updated forecasts, can be found here.
SO states that the MHSW program for pressurized containers will wind-up on schedule on June 30, 2021.
