The CPA has received a significant amount of data submitted by members who have business with Class 1 carriers in response to the CPA's 2022 Rail Survey. The survey, issued at the beginning of summer, is the first step in a member-driven data collection initiative as the association continues to work towards filling gaps that will support advocacy messaging and policy positions.
The survey is intended to capture information from members that is not currently collected through public reporting requirements and will better support CPA advocacy on this important transportation issue. Information collected from members is treated as confidential, with all proprietary information aggregated so that external use of the data represents collective industry information.
The CPA is now undertaking quality control processes on the submitted data, with the expectation that the aggregated data will be ready early Q4. The aggregated results will be shared with members once complete.
By collecting and sharing aggregated industry data, the CPA and members can use quantitative metrics to enhance the industry's narrative. Data can be a powerful tool in advocacy efforts to improve policies when it is communicated in a manner that best presents the sector’s case.
