In December, the CPA held several meetings with political and bureaucratic staff in the Ontario government to discuss the importance of switching Ontarians from using heating oil to propane.
The discussions focused on targeting some of the 380,000-plus Ontario homes that still rely on heating oil and have no access to natural gas. The program objective would include the province providing financial assistance to offset the cost of changing home heating fuel from oil to propane and installing a high-efficiency propane furnace.
The first step to creating a province-wide program is developing a “pilot project”. A community that fits the criteria of having no access to natural gas and is dependent on heating oil could be identified as the test case. The CPA will continue to discuss the possibility with Ontario officials and will update the status with the Ontario Committee when it meets in February.
