Hydro-Québec Offers Regional Financial Support for Converting to Propane

Hydro-Québec is now offering financial assistance to residents of Îles-de-la-Madeleine that switch from electricity to propane, enabling islanders to significantly cut their heating costs.
The program initially offered assistance to residents converting from electricity to heating oil, but now includes compensation for both energy sources. In the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, electricity is generated by diesel-fired power plants. When demand increases, the generating stations have to burn more oil to produce more power. But heating their homes and water with propane or oil instead of electricity is economical, better for the environment and energy-efficient.
Customers that convert to propane or oil will receive the following:
• Conversion rebate: $16 per sq. /m. of heated area to a maximum of $8,500.
• Free maintenance and repair service 24/7.
• Free replacement of defective or outdated equipment.
• Automatic compensation for the cost of oil or propane applied to their bill.
