On January 13, the CPA joined other national associations in Toronto for a pre-budget consultation with federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau. The federal Liberal government is preparing for its first budget, which could be tabled in the House of Commons as early as March. The budget will provide a road map of the plans and priorities for the new government, and the CPA expects that an important focus for the government will be on the environment.
Among the discussion topics was climate change. Coming out of COP21 in Paris, there are expectations from certain groups for quick action by the federal government to develop a plan to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. As an energy source, propane is cleaner and lower in GHG emissions than traditional fuel sources. The CPA will continue to work with governments at all levels and discuss how propane can help them meet their GHG reduction targets.
