On February 2, Allan Murphy, CPA’s Senior Director of Public Affairs and Policy, attended the 2016 Canadian Energy Industry Updates and Insights event in Ottawa.
The event, hosted by the Energy Council of Canada, attracted an audience of over 180 including Members of Parliament, senior elected officials, a large contingent from the diplomatic community including 15 Ambassadors/High Commissioners, and strong representation from the Energy Council’s membership. This year’s event focused on energy supply issues, from generation and production, through transmission and pipelines and distribution, energy storage and HR developments and issues.
Among those who addressed the forum was Ms. Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, the Hon. Jim Carr. Of interest to the propane industry, Ms. Rudd noted that the federal government wants to become a global leader in low carbon energy and that the government will invest in cleaner technology that focuses on low carbon processes. She also noted that the government is looking for data that will help inform policy discussions. As a low carbon fuel, propane is well positioned to help the government meet these objectives. Information on the event is available on the Energy Council of Canada website.
