In August 2017, Dan Kelly, chair of the CPA Board of Directors and Nathalie St-Pierre, President & CEO attended the 41^st Annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG/ECP) held in Prince Edward Island.

 

The 11-member jurisdictions of NEG/ECP are: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Québec.

Dan and Nathalie attended the Energy Forum, an interactive discussion bringing together leading energy experts from around the region to explore collaborative opportunities to transition to a low-carbon economy. They also had the opportunity to listen to David MacNaughton, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S., Elizabeth Moore Aubin, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, the Hon. Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and James D Irving, owner of J.D. Irving Limited, in a panel moderated by Maryscott Greenwood, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian-American Business Council.

At each of the sessions,the Premiers and Governors were engaging in the discussions with panelists, asking questions or providing their own views on the issues raised. By the end of the conference, four resolutions were adopted, indicating all parties would continue working together on key climate change and other issues:

• Resolution 41-1: Resolution Concerning Trade Integration and the Benefits of Cross-Border Trade
• Resolution 41-2: Resolution Concerning The Regional Climate Change Action Plan
• Resolution 41-3: Resolution Concerning Response To Emergencies In A Changing Climate
• Resolution 41-4: Resolution Concerning Transportation

Dan Kelly participated in the Renewable Energy Tour to visit several leading sustainable energy projects across the Island, which included visits to:

• The PEI District Energy Facility
• Summerside Wind Farm and solar battery storage project
• Prince County Hospital biomass facility
• Cavendish Farms Biogas Facility

Overall, the event was very informative and the networking activities proved valuable for the propane industry. The CPA had the opportunity of including the latest Energized magazine into delegate bags and propane was widely discussed as a result. It provided both Dan and Nathalie the opportunity to interact with several government representatives. The CPA is looking forward to next year’s event and the opportunity to actively participate in a panel to discuss the contribution propane can make in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
