ON: CPA welcomes Ontario's environmental plan
The CPA responded by issuing a
news release applauding the government’s push to remove unnecessary provincial regulations.
“The minister’s plan provides important conditions that will foster investment by the propane industry, resulting in the expansion of low-emission propane in Ontario, including auto propane,” said Dan Kelly, Board Chair of the Canadian Propane Association. “The government’s commitment to move forward with an accelerated capital cost allowance is an important element in that regard.”
The CPA has identified other potential opportunities in Ontario’s environmental plan for the industry, including the publicly funded Ontario Carbon Trust to leverage private investment in clean technologies. The CPA will also work with the Ontario government on other efforts highlighted in the plan, including:
- Industry growth: Removing barriers in auto fuels
- Participation: Participating in the minister's advisory panel on climate change
- Level playing field: Eliminating the 14.3 cents road tax imposed on propane that is not applied to other alternative fuels like natural gas
- Emission testing program: Including auto propane as an alternative fuel for reducing emissions from commercial vehicles (p.10)
- Infrastructure: Securing propane as the back-up energy source of choice for the province’s essential services and infrastructures, such as hospitals, so they can remain operational during extreme weather events (p.21)
- Indigenous communities: Increasing the access of Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario to clean and affordable energy sources for their businesses and families (p.33)
