As reported in the July 2019 issue of the PA newsletter, the province of New Brunswick ordered 16 propane school buses last fall and will be receiving them mid-August.
The buses will be located in the Moncton area and will be available to students attending various schools in the region. The buses will refuel at two Superior Propane facilities in the Grand Moncton area, one located in Moncton and one in Dieppe.
“The province is looking forward to receiving the school buses and transporting students in a clean and quiet environment,” said Regional Service Coordinator, Transport and Infrastructure Roland Gallant.
The Department of Transportation is also looking to convert some of its fleets to auto propane in the future. Currently, there is a requirement to train drivers on using the propane buses, but the CPA is working to remove this obligation to train.
The CPA believes that using propane as a fuel for school buses is a step in the right direction and is hopeful that many of the 100 buses the New Brunswick government is planning to order in 2020 will be running on propane.
