On January 31, CPA members and staff met with met with Nova Scotia officials from the departments of natural resources, climate change, and the environment to discuss the critical role a propane retrofit program could play in the province’s goal of reducing GHGs and making home energy more affordable.
CPA Atlantic Committee Chair Royden Boudreau was joined by Vice Chair Lee Johnson as well as members Alan Frail and Doug Myles from Superior Propane and Ian Appleton from Ultramar, along with the CPA’s SVP Government Relations Allan Murphy.
The CPA pointed out that the Province of Nova Scotia does not have a program that will eliminate the use of furnace oil by consumers – a compelling opportunity to enhance the government’s plan to reduce GHG emissions while lowering energy costs for Nova Scotians.
A program to switch from heating oil to propane would offer homeowners incentives to upgrade to high-efficiency appliances and move their energy use from heating oil to propane, providing immediate emissions reductions.
The departments are open to receive information on a rebate program and the CPA will formally propose a propane retrofit program in the coming weeks. For more information contact SVP Government Relations allanmurphy@propane.ca.
