The CPA has petitioned for changes to the current version of the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Production Act in relation to agricultural applications of propane and power in remote communities.
 
The B.C. Government has announced their 2019 Budget, and with it, the highly anticipated financial commitment to the CleanBC Plan. The budget is forecasting a surplus of $247 million in the coming year, with much of that surplus coming from increased revenues from the speculation tax.
 
In a sweeping majority, Jason Kenney’s United Conservative Party was elected in Alberta, reducing the NDP to opposition status after their single term in government. The UCP was officially sworn in on April 30.
 
In their Fall Economic Statement, the Ontario government announced a review of the Far North Act with the goal of reducing red tape and restrictions on important economic development projects in the Far North, including the Ring of Fire, all-season roads and electrical transmission projects for communities.
 
Ontario Finance Minister Vic Fedeli delivered the government’s first Ontario Budget on April 11, 2019. The budget highlights the province’s $15 billion deficit and daily expenditures of $40 million more than revenues.
 
 
The CPA has sent an expression of interest to the Technical Safety Standards Association (TSSA) for a position on its Propane Advisory Council. The Association has submitted Ontario Government Relations Director Marcelline Riddell as a candidate to ensure consistent information sharing and policy positions between the council and the propane industry. Past CPA VP Regulatory Affairs and Safety Melanie Levac previously sat on the council.
 
The voters elected Dennis King’s Progressive Conservatives as the first minority government in provincial history. The election saw a breakthrough from the Green Party, now the Official Opposition, while the previously governing Liberals were left standing in third place.

ERAC
Earlier this year, ERAC launched its new online training curriculum, which is based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and composed of five sections of training with 19 courses total. Compared to the old PowerPoint version, the new HTML format is engaging, immersive and interactive.
 
While designed with ERAC response teams in mind, these LPG and flammable liquids courses contain information that is beneficial to Plan Participants and industry stakeholders alike. The courses can be purchased on the ERAC website.
