On October 26, the Ontario Ministry of Energy released the 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan (LTEP), setting out a 20-year roadmap for the province’s energy future. Following the document’s release, the CPA has analyzed the LTEP and determined the following conclusions on what it means for the propane industry.

On November 24, the CPA published a news release applauding the government of Québec for extending its "Ecocamionnage" program, which aims to promote the use of vehicles with equipment and technologies that improve energy efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the freight sector. On November 27, Enbridge entered into an agreement with the State of Michigan, laying out a path forward for addressing the future of Line 5. The agreement increases collaboration and coordination between the State and Enbridge, and contains seven key actions that move toward a long-term solution.

The Direct Sellers Act (2013) is currently being reviewed by the Saskatchewan government to ensure the legislation still meets consumer protection standards in the province. The CPA is watching this review closely as the Act presently contains an exclusion for " a person selling newspapers, water, propane gas or fuel petroleum products" from the requirement to be a licensed direct seller.

In April 2016, the Québec government launched its new energy policy: L’énergie des Québécois – Source de croissance and energy transition is at the heart of this policy.

The results of the November 14 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission units auction held jointly between Québec and California are now available. This was the thirteenth joint auction to take place since the Québec and California markets were linked on January 1, 2014.

In October 2017, the British Columbia Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy released a new set of regulations on spill contingency planning, including spill contingency plans, drills and exercises, spill response actions and spill reporting requirements.

2017 saw ERAC staff busy across the country assessing and training all partner response teams. During assessments, ERAC technical advisors determine if a team is working safely and proficiently as well as monitor the performance of the transfer equipment.
